Spring/Summer 2007
Published Friday, June 1, 2007

Hello again from slightly damp Greenwood, Arkansas.  Mother Nature has been good to us this year as we have had an abundance of rain and thankfully, cool days.  Summers in Arkansas, as we all know can be miserably hot, so we are welcoming this extended Spring.

We have been very busy lately with out of town Quilt Shows and training for our long arm quilters.  We have been fortunate enough to purchase a new Statler Stitcher from Gammil.  This new machine, once our new employee, Marla McClain, is fully trained and confident, will put us on the map.  As you know we do not do all over patterns for quilting, however, the Statler does repeat patterns for borders and individual blocks once programmed.  Marcella and I attended a week long training session with Linda Taylor in Texas.  Hopefully we will be able to put to good use what we learned while we were there.  Another staff member added this Spring, Paula Porter.  She is a wonderful sales person, and is currently marking quilts for the long arm machines.  These added members to the staff will enable us to spend more time on the Long Arms and hopefully get your quilts out sooner.  We are still around 10 months out, so please be patient.  We have added several new quilt stores across the country and have many people on our list.  If you are planning a quilt for this year, please get on the list as soon as possible.

Classes, as usual in the summer, fall off to just a few resuming full force in the fall.  We are planning an exciting line up of classes for the Holiday Season.  We will be holding the "Just Can't Cut It" class as requested.  An Applique Class using the Elenor Burn's new publication "the MAGIC VINE quilt" will be held in June, so get on the list as soon as possible.

Monday's Sit and Sew (Day and Night) ladies are, as always, turning out beautiful blocks for the Christmas Give Away Quilts.  The Day Meeting are doing Dresden Plate Blocks and the Night Meeting are creating very nice  Grandmother's Flower Pots.  Again, Margie and Marcella will take the blocks, piece them into quilts, quilt them and at the Christmas Party will give them to a lucky winner.  It is still not too late to participate.  All that is required is two blocks per month.  One to give away during the monthly meeting and one block to hold for the Christmas Quilt.  The meetings are alot of fun, with pot luck dinner being served.  If you think quilters can't cook, you are wrong.  Recipes are freely shared.  Please call to see if there are openings.

The Block Party is still going on.  We have 40 + members participating in two colorways.  Call for information on this fun and beautiful quilt.  Again, this is a learning experience with all the help you need from Margie and Marcella on the different blocks each month. This sampler quilt in the blue colorway is gorgeous made up.  The fabric for the blue colorway is Benartex "Through the Seasons" by Eleanor Burns.  Come by the shop to see the finished quilt. Fabric used for the other colorway is Kansas Troubles by Moda.
